July 09, 2025 from 14:30 to 16:00
Participants: Miguel Macias Sequeira
The current polycrisis challenges scientists to adopt new approaches to research and knowledge production. Inter- and transdisciplinarity (respectively: the collaboration across disciplinary boundaries, and the inclusion of non-academics in the co-production of knowledge) have become essential to research agendas seeking new pathways beyond crises. Furthermore, sustainability transitions request both academics and non-academics as the “end-users of innovation”, to step out of their known practices to experiment new practices and new roles. Following a pluralistic and heterogeneous understanding of inter- and transdisciplinarity, this session brings together researchers from CHANGE and ICS-ULisboa to discuss insights and experiences from their integrative research work.
These projects span diverse contexts and perspectives, including the Montado silvopastoral system, the ocean, and social experiments aligned with the priority topics of the European Green Deal.
Guided by the central question “ Which processes can empower end users to become active players in the co-construction of knowledge and in science-practice collaboration processes – together with the natural systems and environments they relate to?” the participants will share and reflect on their experiences across these varied settings.
