The event highlighted the importance of new European instruments, such as the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), the Social Climate Fund and the European Plan for Affordable Housing.
Participants agreed that effectively tackling energy poverty requires an integrated approach, combining social, housing and climate objectives, so that the energy transition is fair and leaves no one behind.
Pedro Palma defended that energy poverty mitigation requires coordinated strategies among actors at the national and local levels, integrating accurate detection, comprehensive vulnerability assessment, and tailored actions to provide effective support to the most affected households and contribute to a just energy transition.
