João Pedro Gouveia was interviewed for this great report on energy Poverty in Portugal.

Despite the general perception that Portugal has a mild climate, the reality is that we are one of the countries where most people die of cold. So says Manuela Almeida, researcher in energy efficiency of buildings and professor at the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Minho. According to Eurostat data, 18.9% of the Portuguese population cannot heat their homes. There is still no official definition of energy poverty at European level, but João Pedro Gouveia defines it as "the inability to maintain housing with adequate levels of essential energy services." The professor and researcher at CENSE - Center for Research in Environment and Sustainability at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa guarantees that "people may not know what energy poverty is, but they know that they don't have a confort at home."
