Proud to Share My Participation in an Important ARTE DEUTSCHLAND TV GMBH Documentary
Portugal is known for its sunny climate — yet, paradoxically, it has one of the highest rates of energy poverty in Western Europe. Over 2 million people in the country cannot afford to adequately heat their homes during winter, while also being uncomfortable during the summer with excessive indoor heat .
I recently had the opportunity to contribute to a powerful documentary by ARTE TV that sheds light on this urgent social, health, and environmental challenge. It tells the story of people like Fernando Gonçalves, a 60-year-old living in precarious housing conditions in Porto, and the work of inspiring organizations like Just a Change, which helps families live in safer, warmer homes.
The documentary also highlights ongoing efforts by experts and practitioners to tackle energy poverty at its roots.
This is more than a national issue — it's a European and global concern, deeply tied to climate justice, inequality, and urban planning.
