PhD Candidate at NOVA University of Lisbon
Tiago Mesquita is a PhD candidate in Geography at the University of Coimbra, where his research examines how energy poverty shapes mental health, well-being, and territorial inequalities in Portugal. Building on a Master’s in Human Geography, Planning, and Healthy Territories, his work adopts a mixed-methods approach that combines statistical analysis with qualitative insights to better understand the socioeconomic and spatial drivers of energy vulnerability. His research highlights the importance of territorial context in public health outcomes, emphasizing how different demographic groups experience energy poverty in distinct ways. Tiago aims to produce evidence that informs more equitable and effective policy responses to energy poverty and its health impacts. He has held research fellowships at both the University of Coimbra and Maastricht University, and his academic trajectory reflects a strong commitment to addressing complex issues at the intersection of geography, energy, socioeconomics, and public health.
