The cold front in Portugal, which will increase between Christmas and New Year's Eve, will affect millions of Portuguese people who, mainly due to the conditions of their homes, suffer extreme levels of thermal discomfort.


Researcher João Pedro Gouveia, from the Faculty of Science and Technology at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, specialized in Energy Poverty, calls for urgent measures to solve a transversal problem in Portuguese society.


"Despite there being political recognition, financial instruments, support mechanisms for people, the existing financing is clearly scarce for the scale of the problem that Portugal has. It is not enough to just recognize or have a strategy. It is necessary to effectively implement the instruments to combat energy poverty effectively for the most vulnerable people"
