João Pedro Gouveia is a new member of the Working Group of the IWG5 - Task Force 5 on “Just Transition: Affordable and Sustainable Renovation” of the SET Plan IWG5 on Buildings.
Future work will focus on a theme which is relevant to fostering the transition to a Sustainable Built Environment: making the energy transition ‘just’, which entails tackling ‘energy poverty’ by intervening in one of the factors causing it (the
energy inefficiency of buildings) and by creating a ‘supportive environment’. It generally encompasses both technological (e.g., cost-effective technologies/solutions for Energy Efficiency in Buildings) and non-technological instruments (e.g., policy framework/funding opportunities/stimulus mechanisms/knowledge sharing
initiatives).
Socially vulnerable groups or disadvantaged geographical or urban / extraurban areas need to be adequately supported in a diversified manner, making energy poverty a multifactorial phenomenon.
